DS18B20 (TO-92, 3 pin)

Dallas Datasheet

The DS18B20 is a digital thermometer featuring ±0.5°C accuracy over a -10°C to +85°C range. Data is read out over a 1-Wire® serial bus in 2's complement format with 9 to 12 bits of resolution (user-programmable).

The DS18B20 offers thermostatic functionality with over-temperature (TH) and under-temperature (TL) user-programmable setpoints stored in on-chip EEPROM. An internal flag is set when the measured temperature is greater than TH or less than TL. If thermostatic operation is not required, the two bytes of EEPROM reserved for TH and TL may be used for general-purpose nonvolatile storage.

Each DS18B20 features a unique and unchangeable 64-bit silicon serial number, which serves as the bus address for the sensor. This allows multiple DS18B20 devices to coexist on the same 1-Wire bus. The DS18B20 may be locally powered via a 3.0V to 5.5V supply, or power can be derived from the 1-Wire data line ("parasite power").

  • ±0.5°C accuracy from -10°C to +85°C
  • Measures temperatures from -55°C to +125°C (-67°F to +257°F)
  • 9- to 12-bit user-configurable resolution

The MicroLAN coupler is an essential component to build and control 1-Wire® networks with multi-level branching. In contrast to approaches that switch the ground line, the coupler maintains a common ground level for the whole network and keeps the inactive segments powered. This simplifies supplying central or local power for additional circuitry and prevents loss of status of parasitically powered devices. It also avoids disrupting communication caused by the parasitic power supply of 1-Wire devices after activating a branch. Both the main and the auxiliary 1-Wire output are supported by a smart-on command. This command generates a reset/presence sequence on the selected output before the electronic switch closes the contact to the 1-Wire bus. This way the bus master can apply a ROM function command (optionally followed by a memory function) to the devices on the just activated segment with all other devices in the network remaining deselected. This significantly speeds up the analysis of topology and population in a continuously changing network. The coupler also supports the bus master in detecting arrivals on the inactive segments of the network by responding to the conditional search command.

  • Low impedance coupler to create large common-ground, multi-level 1-Wire networks
  • Keeps inactive branches pulled high to 5V
  • Simplifies network topology analysis by logically decoupling devices on active network segments
  • Conditional search for fast-event signaling
  • Auxiliary 1-Wire line to connect a memory chip or to be used as digital input
  • Programmable, general-purpose open-drain control output
  • Communicates at 16.3kbps
  • Unique, factory-lasered and tested 64-bit registration number assures absolute traceability because no two parts are alike
  • Built-in multidrop controller ensures compatibility with other 1-Wire products
  • Operating temperature range from -40°C to +85°C
  • Compact, low-cost 6-pin TSOC surface mount package

The DS2433 is a 4kb 1-Wire® EEPROM. Like all 1-Wire devices the DS2433 consists of a factory-lasered 64-bit ROM registration number that includes a unique 48-bit serial number, an 8-bit CRC, and an 8-bit family code (23h). The power to read and write the DS2433 is derived entirely from the 1-Wire communication line. The memory is organized as 16 pages of 256 bits each. Data is transferred serially through the 1-Wire protocol which requires only a single data lead and a ground return.

  • 4096 bits electrically erasable programmable read-only memory (EEPROM)
  • Unique, factory-lasered and tested 64-bit registration number assures absolute identity because no two parts are alike
  • Built-in multidrop controller ensures compatibility with other 1-Wire products
  • Memory partitioned into sixteen 256-bit pages for packetizing data
  • Reduces control, address, data, and power to a single data pin
  • Overdrive mode boosts communication speed to 142kbps
  • Low-cost PR-35, 8-pin SO, or flip-chip packages
  • Reads and writes over a wide voltage range of 2.8V to 6.0V from -40°C to +85°C

The DS2890 is a 1-Wire® digitally controlled potentiometer with 256 linearly spaced wiper positions. Device operation, including wiper position, is controlled over the single contact 1-Wire® bus for the ultimate in electrical interface simplicity. With a wide 0-11 volt working voltage range for the potentiometer terminals, the DS2890 is ideal for a broad range of industrial and control applications. Potentiometer terminal voltage is independent of device supply voltage as well as the voltage applied to the other potentiometer terminals. Communication with the DS2890 follows the standard Dallas Semiconductor 1-Wire protocol and can be accomplished with minimal hardware such as a single port pin of a microcontroller. Multiple DS2890 devices can reside on a common 1-Wire bus and be operated independently of each other. Each DS2890 has its own unalterable 64-bit ROM registration number that is factory lasered into the chip. The registration number guarantees unique identification for absolute traceability and is used to address the device in a multi-drop 1-Wire Network environment. The DS2890 supports two power modes: a) 1-Wire only mode in which device power is supplied parasitically from the 1-Wire and b) VDD mode where power is supplied from an external supply With a VDD supply the device can support both a potentiometer and variable resistor configuration. When operating in a 1- Wire only power mode the device supports only a variable resistor configuration.

  • Single element 256-position linear taper potentiometer
  • Supports potentiometer terminal working voltages up to 11V
  • Potentiometer terminal voltage independent of supply voltage
  • Potentiometer wiper position controlled and read over minimal 1-Wire bus interface
